Staffordshire County Council is starting a £730,000 road improvement scheme on Bretby Lane in Burton from Monday 12 October. The project will resurface the route from the junction of Ashby Road, past the Bretby Lane roundabout, to the South Derbyshire boundary. Work is expected to take around two months.

What will be resurfaced

In addition to Bretby Lane itself, the junctions of Moat Bank, Melbourne Avenue and Empire Road will receive new surfaces as part of the scheme.

Traffic arrangements

For the first month, roadworks will operate under temporary traffic lights. From then onwards, resurfacing will be completed under full road closures between 7.30am and 5pm. Outside these hours, the road will remain open.

A clearly signed diversion route will be in place. Crew members will be on hand to assist drivers with access to properties within the closure points.

Why the work is happening

Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, said the investment forms part of the council's Highways Roadmap to a Better Network approach. "We're looking at the whole area and carrying out different repairs and improvements at the same time, rather than having to come back and disrupt residents and road users again in the future," he said.
